Our year 9 and 10 learners have all experienced the fun of Active As sessions this year.
This initiative aims to encourage our rangatahi to explore activities beyond their comfort zones, fostering a spirit of courage and adventure, and has featured activities like roller skating, street art, fencing, Gaelic football, henna tattoo and swimming.
Year 11 learners had their turn on Monday 21 October, trying new activities and sports including korfball, pickle ball and table tennis.
It was an awesome experience for the senior learners!
Another success from our Active As funding this year has been buying gear to support recreation at school in break times. We bought footballs, rugby balls, tennis balls, frisbees and cricket gear, and our fields at lunchtime are packed with our learners playing games.
We were also able to install two new basketball hoops on the covered courts, leading to less crowding on one court where sometimes up to three games were taking place at once! It's a credit to our learners who were able to make this work for so long.
We are thrilled with the success of Active As at Rolleston College, and we'd like to thank everyone from our Active As coordinator Wendy McCarthy, to our student ambassadors, to everyone who participated this year.
Wendy is moving into a sports coordinator role in our sports department, so we welcome Harry into the role of Active As coordinator. Harry is a member of Weedons Cricket Club and has a passion for getting rangatahi engaged and active. He's been running our lunchtime intitiative.
