Road safety week: SADD conference

Aimee and Cameron Webb went to Dunedin during the school holidays for the Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD (Student Against Dangerous Driving) conference.

"As part of the SADD group, we get the opportunity to go to a conference each year during the holidays. It helps us to expand our thinking, boost our confidence, and improve our leadership and teamwork skills all while getting together with like-minded SADD students and community partners to create useful content for the community.

This year the conference was held in Dunedin at John McGlashan College. Each year it's held somewhere different, so it's a great chance to go somewhere exciting and do something new.

The conference goes for three days which gives us a great chance to create decent content as well as make some really good friends. The majority of the conference is in your group however there is still plenty of free time to mix with other people and have your own fun.

We have to say the dress-up quiz night is by far our favourite part of the trip, it’s fun, competitive, and everyone leaves with a smile. They have a different theme each year to keep it fresh and everyone participates!

Overall this conference is a really good opportunity as you always have such a great time and get to make some awesome friends. The places you stay and the people you meet makes it all worthwhile just for that. Whether you're new or not it doesn’t matter because you always have the best time and learn something new. There is also really delicious food which is an added bonus too!"

Aimee's team won the award for best presentation, and she also won the dress up competition!

We're super proud of our learners involved in such a good cause.

Other learners in the Rolleston SADD group are Zoe Alston and Hazel Pugh.

Zoe shared a road safety Kahoot! quiz with us for road safety week too.
