It was awesome to celebrate with many of our whānau on Tuesday night at the arts and cultural excellence awards evening. We truly have outstanding and talented young people in this school, and it was an honour to be able to celebrate with them and their families.
Likewise, it was a real treat to see so many of our alumni back for the basketball on Wednesday night. We hope to see this become a regular fixture on our sporting calendar; and thanks so much to Mr Cam Drewett and Mr Connor Page who—along with Anna Molloy—put so many hours into basketball at our kura.
To our alumni: there is nothing that gives us more pleasure than seeing our learners return to the school to give back. You will always be a part of our Rolleston College family, and it was good to see a few cheeky wee smiles as alumni came away with the win. I found it hard to know who to cheer for! It was a great game!
This week, members of the board of trustees and the senior leadership team visited the second campus site for a meeting with Southbase and a tour around the grounds to see the work to date. Much of the concrete foundations for the science and technology building have been established along with underground services.
The structural steel should start being erected in late January 2025, so there will be more to peek at over the fence. We will meet with the Ministry of Education next week to confirm the temporary buildings, which will be placed on site ahead of the construction of stage two.
The school and board will be working hard to ensure that construction of the second campus is seamless and continuous, to meet the needs of our ever-expanding town. We will keep you updated regularly with progress.
Many learners and whanau have asked after Mr Neal, our relief teacher, following his health event, and learners have written cards and messages for him. Mr Winsloe visited him at Burwood this week and he is making positive steps in his recovery and was very touched by the messages of support for him.
I hope you have some exciting plans for labour weekend—even if that is just being able to take a break before the busy-ness of the wind up to Christmas.
If you are traveling, please travel safe.
Ngā mihi,
Rachel

Leavers' gear
Thank you for your patience regarding leavers' gear. Unfortunately, the supplier has updated us to say there is an ongoing delay in arrival. We are disappointed that they have not met their promised deadline. We will update you as soon as we hear from them again. Thank you!
Signing in and out of school
Learners are our responsibility during school hours, so those who are late to school should go straight to student services and sign in using the tablet. It will print a slip for the learner to take to their teacher. When they arrive in class, the teacher will update their attendance in Kamar.
Learners who leave school to go home early, work, or attend an appointment must sign out using the tablet in student services.
This is for health and safety purposes: for example, in the event of an evacuation or lockdown we need to know who is on campus.
Please remind your learners to sign in and out, rather than calling or emailing the school to let us know they have left afterwards.

Loan PE tops
If your learner has borrowed a PE top from school, please return it before the end of the school year! We are running out of loan tops and can't issue any more until they are returned.
