Principal's pānui

Mā mua ka kite a muri, mā muri ka ora o mua: Those who lead give sight to those who follow, those give life to those who lead.

We had another huge turnout for our annual open evening on Tuesday this week with two evening sessions and a packed auditorium for both sessions. Learner leaders hosted tours throughout the school and prospective parents and learners had the opportunity to see the school on show and in action.

Thank you to all our staff and learners who supported our annual open evening. It's always wonderful to see learners and staff partnering in authentic learning opportunities.

Well done to all learners who participated in the literacy and numeracy common assessment exams over this week. These exams continue into next week and we are proud of the efforts so far. Being Ready to Achieve (R2A) is one of our key pillars at Rolleston College Horoeka Haemata and as senior learners are progressing through their learning programme for 2024, we are seeing some pleasing results.

As we continue to foster the Rolleston Spirit, I encourage every learner to embrace opportunities for personal growth and to develop self-discipline, resilience and their passion for learning. Together, let’s create an environment where each learner strives to become their best self, contributing to our vibrant and dynamic school community.

With this in mind, we wish good luck to the soloists and senior rock band who are competing in the Smokefree Rockquest this evening at the Aurora Centre in Christchurch. The arts are going from strength to strength in the college and it is an exciting term with learners preparing for Showquest in dance, rehearsals underway for Grease the Musical, and next week our vocal group will be performing at the Festival of Choirs in Ashburton.

In addition to this, next week is also Samoa Language Week and we are excited to see the celebrations from the Pasifika team led by Mr Vili Vea. We will have performances and celebrations throughout the week.

A great weekend of sports is ahead for our Rolleston College teams and it's great to see some home games at the college for basketball on Friday evening and rugby on Saturday.

Ngā mihi

Rachel Skelton
